Frequently asked questions

How do I work with Smyth Composites?

Most products / panels can be easily cut, drilled and installed using conventional tools or can be successfully glazed using standard polyurethane or silicone mastics, which will have no adverse reaction with the panels.

Do Smyth Composites have any specific Health & Safety issues?

Not really, other than to cut in well ventilated areas using gloves, eye protection and dust particle masks.

What are the key qualities / advantages of using Smyth Composites products?

Generally speaking they are vandal, graffiti, impact, shatter, UV and fire resistant, lightweight, low maintenance, very strong, RF transparent, smokeless, odourless, insulatory and available in an almost limitless range of colours.

Can the products be painted?

Most products are coloured during manufacture so the colour runs through the whole panel. Some can also be painted with a number of finishes including gel coat, speckle and spatter.

What thicknesses are available?

Standard thicknesses are 3, 4 & 6mm, with no maximum within reasonable limits.

Is UV degradation an issue and what can be done about it?

With the application of our unique surface protectant membrane the panels will not yellow and degrade when exposed to long term sunlight / UV.

Can I colour-match GRP?

Colours may vary slightly from batch to batch, so when planning an installation, consideration should be given to ordering enough pigment as a masterbatch to ensure uniformity of colour.

Are Smyth Composites fire rated?

Products can be manufactured to suit individual requirements; Class I BS 476 systems are recommended where there is a risk of fire, while Phenolic laminates and foams provide the ultimate protection against fire, smoke and toxic emissions.

Can I get a sample?

Standard stock samples are usually dispatched the same day. Non-standard samples or specific colours are usually sent within 4 to 5 working days if the product has to be manufactured.

How do I order?

Telephone, fax or email your order including product type, quantities, sizes, thickness, surface finishes and colour, and we will contact you with a price and gather any missing details.

What is the order turn-around time?

Our usual turn-around time is 7-10 working days, although we can supply goods quicker as customer need and level of work dictate.

Where can Smyths deliver to?

We can deliver anywhere in the world, and offer a standard next day delivery service for customers in the United Kingdom.

Do Smyth Composites have BS or ISO certification?

Smyth Composites have their own stringent and continually monitored quality control and processing systems in place.
